The codeshare agreement signed between the two New Caledonian airlines, Aircalin and Air Calédonie in December 2022, is effective as of today. Travellers can now purchase, under an Aircalin flight number, flights with Air Caledonie to the Loyalty Islands and the Isle of Pines, and this in continuation of their international flight with a change of airport. For instance, a Sydney-Lifou, Singapore-Isle of Pines, Paris-Ouvea, are all possible with an itinerary in the same booking and ticket.
It will be simpler for customers to plan a trip to New Caledonia, who will now be able to purchase both international and domestic flights from the same distributor (e.g. Aircalin website, travel agency, etc.). Similarly, in case of an unexpected events during the trip, travellers will experience a much more efficient process in relation to rescheduling and the delivery of the luggage to the final destination.
This commercial collaboration, the culmination of two years of work, now enables the two airlines to develop a new level of cooperation.
Increase the domestic network’s exposure and respond to the needs of the tourism industry
Thanks to the codeshare agreement, Aircalin is now able to offer more than 6,000 flights per year on the New Caledonia domestic network, thus allowing Air Calédonie to display its flights in global distribution systems worldwide.
This increased exposure of domestic destinations on global marketplaces offers development opportunities for the tourism industry in New Caledonia. It will also enable medium-term planning of new opportunities, such as connections with domestic flights direct from Tontouta International Airport.
