Food and travel have always been great companions. And now Cebu Pacific, Philippines’ leading airline, has teamed up with specialist Australian ice-creamery Manila St to celebrate the resumption of its Melbourne-Manila route with an exclusive new flavour.

The carrier will resume flights on Monday March 27 after a hiatus of approximately three years and will operate a thrice-weekly service. To mark the resumption of flights, Cebu Pacific is undertaking a fun collab with artisan ice-cream brand Manila St, a business started several years ago by Sydney couple Chester and Michelin Dapo which now offers a range of Filipino-inspired ice-cream flavours through distributors in Australia.

“We have created a specially-developed Calamansi Cheesecake flavour to celebrate the relaunch of Cebu’s Melbourne to Manila services,” said Chester. “We are very proud to be working with the Philippines’ number one carrier and as part of the partnership we will be offering free Calamansi Cheesecake ice-cream to shoppers and passers-by at Melbourne’s Central Shopping Centre in the heart of the central business district this coming weekend.”

Chester said interest in Filipino ice-cream had soared in recent times and that he and his partner harnessed the hugely-popular taste of the vivid purple yam called “ube” to create their original flavour, Ube Halaya, and have since expanded their offering.

“Filipinos have long had a love affair with ice-cream,” he explained. “We have tapped into this burgeoning trend and added a new spin to it with our Calamansi Cheesecake offering, using calamansi, which are a popular type of citrus fruit native to the Philippines.”

Commenting on the partnership, Cebu Pacific’s Carmina Romero said: “We are very excited to be undertaking this promotion with Chester and his Manila St brand. The connection between the Philippines and Australia has always been strong. Now we have reinforced the bond further by teaming up with someone who is successfully tapping Filipino culture and sharing it with the Australian community”.

Romero said Cebu Pacific was excited to offer services from Melbourne again. “This will allow us to provide both Filipino and Australian travellers the opportunity to explore our beautiful country with over 7,000 islands offering everything from amazing swimming and diving locations to trekking and adventure-style holidays – as well, of course, as our unique food and culinary treats.”

Members of the public can drop by the Manila St ice-cream stand at Melbourne Central between 10am-5pm this coming weekend (Sat Mar 25/Sun Mar 26) to try the refreshing taste of Cebu and Manila Street’s new Calamansi Cheesecake flavour, while also hopping in the draw to win return flights from Melbourne to Manila by sharing on social media.

Cebu will resume its Melbourne to Manila flights Monday, March 27, flying three times a week. Flights can be booked for as low as AUD169 one-way all in at cebupacificair.com.
