As the Holy Month of Ramadan approaches, Emirates is taking the opportunity to provide a thoughtful and comprehensive passenger experience. From in-flight meals to Ramadan-themed entertainment and awareness training for staff, Emirates is going above and beyond to cater to the needs of its Muslim passengers during this special time.
One of the highlights of the Emirates’ Ramadan offering is the iftar meal boxes. From March 22nd, passengers breaking their fast on select flights will receive nutritionally-balanced iftar meals served in bespoke boxes designed by Emirates to honour the traditional Al Sadu weavers of the UAE. The boxes feature geometric patterns that reflect the social aspect of Ramadan when families and friends gather to break their fasts. In addition to traditional dates and refreshing laban, the boxes will include light dishes and starters such as hummus, falafel sandwiches, pasta salad, and zaatar chicken salad, among others. A smaller box will also be available at boarding gates during iftar time, ensuring passengers have all the essentials to comfortably break their fast.
Emirates’ iftar box will be served to complement the regular hot meal service, and menus will be refreshed weekly to ensure a best-in-class dining experience during the Holy Month. The boxes will be served on flights to select destinations during times that coincide with iftar, on flights to and from the Gulf region, and on flights catering to Umrah groups travelling to Jeddah and Medina during Ramadan.
To ensure the highest levels of accuracy for fasting Muslim passengers, Emirates uses a unique tool to calculate the correct timings for imsak and iftar while in-flight, based on the times of the sunrise and sunset of the location the flight is passing. When the sun sets, passengers will be officially informed of the iftar time by the captain.
Emirates’ Ramadan offering extends beyond in-flight meals. For customers on the ground, boxes containing water, juice, a banana, and dates will be available to fasting customers at gates for several destinations. Emirates lounges in Dubai International Airport will offer traditional Arabic sweets, dates, and coffee during Ramadan, and meals available in First and Business Class lounges will include a selection of hot and cold Arabic mezzeh, lentil soup, lamb ouzi served with dakous and coriander mint raita, shish taouk with harissa red pepper dip, and Emirati ouzi. Dedicated prayer rooms and ablution facilities are available in Emirates lounges to ensure a peaceful environment for worship.
In addition to in-flight meals and lounge offerings, Emirates’ ice inflight entertainment will feature special religious content throughout March and April, including Hadeeth Al Emam Al Tayeb, Nawafez Aala Al Hayat, Qu’ran Mubeen, Deen Al Tasamoh, Meythaq Al Hayat, Mahe Ramadan (Urdu), Ramadan Ki Fazilat (Urdu), Noor E Ramzan (Urdu), and Niyamat – E – Ramadan (Urdu). Popular Ramadan series and dramas will also be available on ice, such as Al Wade’ Mustaqer – Season 2, Nasiby Wa Qesmetek – Season 4, Tahqiq, Rivo, 25 Soual, and Fil Sayara. With more than 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment available, including 742 Arabic channels featuring movies, TV, podcasts, and music, passengers will have no shortage of options to choose from.
To ensure that all Emirates staff are equipped to provide the highest levels of service during Ramadan, the airline provides Ramadan awareness training for its cabin crew and on-ground teams across its network.
