Spread the love

While every season has its perks, we’re undeniably excited for autumn (or fall, as you may call it!) here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

There’s just something about the festive gold and red colours, cooler temperatures, and seasonal food, drink, and events that make this time of year unlike any other. It’s a fantastic time to visit if you’re wanting to experience quieter travel, gorgeous landscapes, and seasonal food and drink – or if you’re hoping to immerse yourself in nature while the weather’s a little less hot.

It’s also a great time to change up your travel habits; travelling slower and more mindfully helps to protect our most precious places from being overwhelmed, and better supports local communities. Be enveloped by the power of nature during an unforgettable and serene time of year!

We’ve pulled together a round up of everything there is to look forward to on a trip to New Zealand in autumn.

What’s on in Aotearoa this Autumn:
March, April and May are stacked with incredible events and occasions across the country – March in particular is one of the busiest months on the calendar!

Foodie travellers will be delighted by an array of seasonal food, wine and beer festivals. ‘Tis the season for craft beer, with an incredible six beer events across the country; and all the food and wine showcases you could dream of.

May is New Zealand Music Month, and there’s no shortage of gigs, concerts and festivals to get your groove on. Meanwhile, the arts and entertainment buff will be spoilt for choice with art exhibitions, comedy festivals, and film festivals galore.

Forage – Go Beyond Farm To Table:
As the season changes, so does the lush produce available around New Zealand. You’ll be sure to see Aotearoa’s restaurants switch up their menus to reflect the changing season, but what’s even more exciting is the opportunity to embark on a foraging tour to fully immerse yourself in nature and learn about gathering your own beautiful bounty.

Find out where you can go on a truffle-hunting expedition; learn about Māori food traditions on an urban foraging tour before cooking your own foraged lunch; pick your own in-season fruit including apples, pears, and blackberries; and cruise the Marlborough Sound to collect your own ocean-fresh kai moana.
