Outback Queensland Tourism Association has officially launched the 2023 tourism season with the release of its all-new Traveller’s Guide. The ultimate holiday pocketbook showcases 160 ways to experience Outback Queensland, unparalleled landscapes, indulgent retreats, world-class events and 29 exciting new experiences.
Spanning over 932,678 square kilometres, Outback Queensland offers something for everyone. The guide offers family-friendly dinosaur escapades, romantic stays, adventures fit for the grey nomad, and incredible cultural experiences.

Festival of Outback Skies-Hughenden
The 118-page Traveller’s Guide was launched on March 8th, marking the beginning of the 2023 travel season. The Outback Muster Event kicked off the season with the CEO of the Outback Queensland Tourism Association, Denise Brown, delighted to announce the release of the guide featuring a beautiful cover by award-winning photographer, Lisa Alexander.
According to Ms Brown, Outback Queensland has always been a must-visit destination, and with 29 new experiences on offer this year, there has never been a better time to visit. The Outback Rail Adventure in Longreach, Mount Isa Mines Indigenous Rodeo Championships, Cunnamulla’s River Lights Festival, and the Mungindi Sculpture Trail are just a few of the new experiences available for visitors.
In recent months, Outback Queensland has seen an influx of celebrities visiting the region. The Mad Huey’s and Prince Harry’s friend, Nacho Figueras, have all flocked to the area to get a glimpse of the outback charm. The Gilberton Outback Retreat provides the perfect remote hideaway for A-list celebs visiting the state.

The Staging Post
The 2023 Outback Muster Event saw operators, travel agents, and media gather for the Outback Queensland Excellence Awards and to celebrate Outback Queensland Tourism Association’s new partnership with Opera Queensland for the Festival of Outback Opera and the Outback Regional Tour, touring from May 15th to June 3rd.
Andrew Martin, the Chair of the Outback Queensland Tourism Association and Mayor of the Blackall-Tambo Regional Council, said the region has seen a tourism and economic surge, and he is excited to see this continue with this year’s impressive Traveller’s Guide that provides endless adventures and ‘wow’ moments for tourists.
After the pandemic, there has been a spike in young Australians eager to explore their own backyard. Outback Queensland welcomes visitors with their vans and enthusiasm for adventure. The land is nourished and looking more beautiful than ever, the sunsets are phenomenal, the birdlife is sensational, and country hospitality is in spades.

Outback Aussie Tours-Longreach
The Traveller’s Guide includes information on picturesque stays, thirties-style luxury, and newly built boat ramps for water sports and big Barra fishing at Chinaman Creek Dam. Additionally, the Nullawokka First Nations Gallery in the picturesque town of Bollon is a must-see attraction.
Outback Queensland spans five regions, including North West, Far West, Central West, South West, and East.
