Spread the love

As an inspiring backdrop for Sydney WorldPride, Big Love Stories from around the world have been showcased as a giant mural in central Sydney, officially unveiled by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni drag queens, Molly Poppinz and Maxi Shield.

The people behind the stories will be celebrated this weekend by marching with MINI at the 45th Anniversary of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

Located at 1 Woodburn St, Redfern (corner of Woodburn and Cleveland St.), the 9 x 10 metre mural is a collage of quotes from personal “Big Lovestories collected by MINI Australia – stories that champion inclusivity and promote the power of connection to the global LGBTQIA+ community.

Quotes displayed on the mural come from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, and the Netherlands. Championed by ‘Friends of MINI’ Maxi Shield and celebrity profile, Casey Donovan, stories were selected as part of MINI Australia’s globalBig Love Story’ campaign which invited people to share their Big Love Story to win flights, accommodation and tickets to Sydney WorldPride, as well as a money-can’t-buy opportunity to take part in the MINI Parade.

Maxi Shield said: “It’s incredibly moving to see a global showcase of Big Love on display to represent our united community as part of Sydney WorldPride. We all have a unique story to tell and there’s never been a more iconic time for us all to recognise our diversity and help to create a world of equality and acceptance.”

Casey Donovan said: “What a thrill it is to be part of MINI’s ‘Big Love Story’ which will see people from around the world celebrate their individuality and come together to embrace everything Sydney WorldPride stands for. I’m incredibly proud to showcase Australia and its thriving community on a global stage.”

Expanding on MINI’s “Big Love” philosophy – a global brand attitude that inspires a world of positive action through connection and inclusivity,  MINI Australia has also developed a digital platform called “Map of Big Love.” An interactive map of Sydney, it showcases significant sites and local businesses, such as stores, bars, cafes, and restaurants, that are supportive and inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Sydney WorldPride 2023 runs until Sunday, 5 March 2023.
