The Nordic tour operator and destination specialist, 50 Degrees North, has become the first Australian Tour Operator to publish carbon labels on their tours, in response to the growing threat of climate change.

50 Degrees North has partnered with ecollective, a company that specialises in helping companies to measure their carbon footprint, to track the emissions of every tour, including accommodation, transport, activities and tour guides, as well as the emissions of their global offices. The operator now publishes the carbon footprint of over 30 of their most popular tours, with the aim of publishing the footprint of all of their 200 tours by 2024.
“By sharing carbon labels for each of our tours, we are taking an important step in understanding the carbon footprint of each trip. This will show us where reductions can be made, and help our customers make more sustainable choices” said Tietse Stelma, 50 Degrees North’s Norwegian founder and CEO.
This is a part of their Climate Action Plan which has been created in response to the growing need to reduce carbon emissions, in line with UN recommendations to combat climate change. The operator aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and has become fully carbon-neutral by offsetting all of their tours and operations in 2023.
