The heritage Mary Valley Rattler Tasting Train is offering an even tastier deal for lovers of heritage railways and premium Mary Valley produce.
For the months of March and April, the Tasting Train price will be reduced from $125 per adult to just $99, a saving of $26 per person.
The Tasting Train departs Historic Gympie Station every Thursday at 10am, taking passengers through one of Australia’s richest and most picturesque food regions – Mary Valley.
The RM 76 railmotor, The Red Rocket, draws the carriages through the Mary Valley stopping at historic stations along the way before arriving in the heritage village of Amamoor.
On the journey, passengers learn about Mary Valley’s evolution as a premium food destination and the Mary Valley line’s role in connecting people and produce.
A tasting plate of local fare is provided during the journey, and a two-course lunch served on the return to Gympie Station at Rusty Rails Café. A wine, beer or soft drink is included in the package, with extra drinks able to be purchased at the café.
Mary Valley Rattler General Manager, Linda Barry, said that the special Tasting Train package was being offered in the lead-up to the region’s premier food festival – GourMay Mary Valley, which starts from Sunday 30 April.
“The Mary Valley is one of the most fertile farm areas in Australia – you can grow just about everything – from meat and dairy to exotic fruits, vegetables and herbs – and our goal is to give passengers both a visual and actual taste of the Mary Valley as they travel through the landscape,” she said.
“The rich agricultural scene was one of the main reasons for the establishment of the railway over 100 years ago, and we are thrilled to be able to maintain that connection today.
“The RM76 railmotor dates back to the 1920s, and was used locally on the Brooloo line to Gympie, providing a daily link to the town for shopping, the transportation of goods and produce, and a means for children to get to school.”
GourMay Mary Valley is a month long festival to celebrate our farmers, producers and creators. Those that grow, produce and prepare food in Mary Valley Country. The Festival runs throughout the month of May and will commence on Sunday April 30 and conclude with a Gala Dinner on June 3rd. Events include farm tours and open days, dinners, workshops, art, film, music, walking tours and much more.
