Tom Walley, Global Managing Director at Corporate TravellerRegional Business Flights to Queensland Increased by 10.5% in 2022: Corporate Traveller Reveals.

Corporate Traveller, a leading travel management provider for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has analyzed data revealing that the proportion of businesses seeking regional routes in their travel has increased. The report reveals that regional flight bookings in Australia in 2022 were 10.5% higher than in 2019, and the top 10 destinations for regional business travel included eight locations in Queensland.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led businesses to explore new opportunities, and with the population in regional Australia expected to continue growing, the report suggests that regional travel for businesses is likely to continue to grow. The data also indicates that businesses are looking for new opportunities in regional areas, with mining, government, and construction industries frequently seeking travel destinations in regional areas.

The top 10 regional business travel routes in 2022, according to the data, are Brisbane-Mackay, Perth-Kalgoorlie, Brisbane-Rockhampton, Brisbane-Townsville, Brisbane-Moranbah, Brisbane-Emerald, Brisbane-Cairns, Sydney-Gold Coast, Melbourne-Gold Coast, and Perth-Port Hedland. The report notes that Queensland’s population boom over the last few years makes it an ideal destination for regional business travel.

Tom Walley, Global Managing Director at Corporate Traveller, commented on the data, saying, “It’s promising to see the increase in businesses traveling to regional Australia in the last 12 months. By the end of the 2022 financial year, the regional tourism industry recovered to 96 per cent of its pre-pandemic levels while the population in regional Australia has increased rapidly in the last two years and is predicted to continue growing.”

Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff also weighed in, saying, “This data underscores what an essential hub Brisbane Airport is for Queensland and our role in supporting regional economies.”

As businesses continue to explore opportunities in regional areas, the report indicates that Queensland’s growth, including regional areas’ property values and business activity, will continue to attract businesses and investments in infrastructure, technology, tourism, transport, and housing.

Overall, the report suggests that the increase in regional business travel is a promising sign for regional Australia’s economy and growth, and it will be interesting to see how the trend evolves in the coming years.
