Six months out from the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash being staged, organisers have today announced that the event has officially sold out – with close to 12,000 intrepid travelers set to rock the iconic red earth plains in August for a truly bucket list experience of music, camping and outback fun.

“Only a bit over a week ago we were talking about being 95% sold out for the Mundi Mundi Bash – and then we had a huge final surge on tickets.  There was obviously a lot of people intending heading to the Mundi Mundi Bash who got worried they’d miss out when we announced we were close to selling out – and they’ve jumped online and purchased immediately.  We really didn’t expect the last 5% of tickets to sell so fast, but we’re certainly not complaining.  What a great result in these times to have two major events already sold out when we’re still 6 months out from staging them. It’s a bit of a pinch myself moment,” said festival owner/founder, producer and Managing Director of the Outback Music Festival Group, Greg Donovan.

Greg Donovan took a huge leap of faith in founding the Birdsville Big Red Bash (July 4-6, 2023) in 2013, and then sister event the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash (August 17-19, 2023) which was staged for the first time last year – with the huge gamble now paying off.

“I left a secure job in corporate insurance and gambled a full redundancy pay out on staging the world’s most remote music festival just outside of Birdsville in the Simpson desert.  That was ten years ago, and this July we’ll celebrate that decade anniversary at the Birdsville Big Red Bash with our founding performer John Williamson, followed by the second big year of the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash in August.  The Mundi Mundi Bash is the biggest event to ever be staged in Outback NSW and is creating another amazing legacy on a spectacular outback location that feels like it’s set on a lunar scape in the middle of no-where – despite actually being very accessible by road, plane or train,” added Greg Donovan.

The stacked line-ups for both the Birdsville Big Red Bash and Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash feature some of the biggest names in Australian rock, pop, roots and country music including ICEHOUSE, Hoodoo Gurus, Human Nature, Pete Murray, The Angels, The Waifs, Kate Ceberano, Troy Cassar-Daley, Ross Wilson (Big Red Bash only), Dragon, Thirsty Merc (Mundi Mundi Bash only), Chocolate Starfish, Shane Howard, Jack Jones, Pierce Brothers, Wendy Matthews, Grace Knight, Mi-Sex (Mundi Mundi Bash only), Chantoozies, Melanie Dyer, Caitlyn Shadbolt and Furnace and the Fundamentals.

Legendary country music singer John Williamson will also hit the stage at the Birdsville Big Red Bash, reprising his Simpson Desert performance from a decade ago which helped launch the bucket list music event.

Both events are all-ages, dog-friendly camping events that run across three days, offering up uniquely Australian destination adventures for families, grey nomads, camping and caravanning enthusiasts and intrepid travellers alike.

In addition to the music line-ups, each festival will feature jam-packed programs of unique outback entertainment and activities – from world record attempts for the ‘Nutbush’ dance and ‘Mad Max dress up’, through to comedy and outdoor film screeningsscenic helicopter flights, camel rides, charity fun runs The Bashville Drag Race and Mundi Undie Rundrag dress up competitions and much more.

While both festival locations are remote, they are easily accessible by road. The Mundi Mundi Plains location has a sealed road leading right up to the event site, while the Big Red Bash location has graded gravel road to reach the festival site with more road tarring set to take place before the 2023 event. Scheduled and charter flights, plus bus tours, are available to both events – and train transport is also available to Broken Hill for the Mundi Mundi Bash.

The Birdsville Big Red Bash and Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash are BYO alcohol for both their campsite and concert areas – and ticket holders are permitted to bring their own food.  A large range of food vendors selling both hot and cold food and non-alcoholic beverages are also on-site.

Both festivals have dog-friendly camping and concert areas, and children aged 11-and-under can attend for free.

The Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

The Birdsville Big Red Bash is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.
