Are you keen to know your Saffron Milk Caps from your Slippery Jacks? Visit Oberon for a wild food and wine adventure as the region’s Field to Forest Festival returns from 18 March to 15 April 2023.

Over 10 tasty paddock to plate events include mushroom foraging tours and workshops, a Winemakers and Distillers Tour, and The Producer’s Table, a performance dinner with local foodies and farmers in The Malachi. Autumn is the best time to visit Oberon after the rain and forage for food in the majestic pine forests.

Event highlights:

  • Forest Talk at the Forest & Timber Pavilion, Saturday 18 MarchFor those new to foraging, guest speakers will share their knowledge on finding wild mushrooms, meet Oberon’s best truffle hunting dog and learn about the forest’s culinary delights and heritage. Cost $5.
  • Oberon Winemakers and Distillers Tour, Saturday 25 March: This day tour visits Oberon’s boutique wineries including Renzaglia Wines and Bellbrook Friends Winery with transport, lunch and tastings along the way. Enjoy stunning vistas and meet a group of artisans with a true passion for their craft. Cost $105.
  • Diego Bonetto’s Mushroom Foraging Workshop, Friday 7 April:  Go on an edible adventure in the pine forest with renowned forager and environmental storyteller Diego Bonetto and foodie and weed convert Marnee Fox, then feast from the forest floor. Cost $95.
  • The Producers Table, Saturday 15 April: Dine on Oberon’s best produce in the magical atmosphere of the Malachi with an avant-garde classical music performance. Hear stories from local producers and dine on Margra Lamb, local trout, Sunny Point Beef, and local garlic and honey. Cost: $105.

Other local foodie experiences include Lowes Mount Truffles (with hunts from June-August), Mayfield Garden Café, Matt Moran’s Rockley Pub, Casey’s Vineyard and Vale Creek Wines and Olives, and Down to Earth Produce who sell their 100% grassfed beef and lamb at local farmers markets.

Oberon is located two hours’ drive from Sydney and is a nature-lovers playground with National Parks, State Forests, ancient caves, and a world-renowned garden.
