Renowned indigenous performer Mitch Tambo will join the line-up for Ride the Soundwave – opening the music festival alongside local elder Uncle Bill, Stevie Donovan on didgeridoo, artwork by local indigenous artist Jamie Donovan and local Birpai dancers.

The all ages, dog friendly Ride the Soundwave music festival will feature a mix of Australian indie, folk and rock legends including Boy & Bear, The Waifs, Busby Marou and Tullara on Saturday April 29 in Port Macquarie, NSW.

Mitch Tambo, a former Australia’s Got Talent finalist, will take to the beachside stage at Town Beach to perform with local Birpai dance groups against a spectacular light show incorporating the artwork of Indigenous leader and local artist Jamie Donovan – who was also 2022 Port Macquarie-Hastings Citizen of the Year.

The RTSW festival will raise much needed funds for the Make a Difference (MAD) charity who support local homeless and disadvantaged on the Mid North Coast.

Set on one of the most picturesque festival locations on the East Coast, tickets to the fundraising Ride the Soundwave event represent extraordinary value at just $90.  Tickets are available at https://www.ticketebo.com.au/ridethesoundwave

The innovative new Mitch Tambo led opening ceremony performance for RTSW will be a celebration of indigenous music, dance and art, delivering an experience that has never before been seen in the Hastings region.

“It’s exciting to bring such an amazing collaborative performance to Ride the Soundwave working with such renowned performers, artists and lighting specialists.  It will be an awesome opening ceremony to RTSW and set the scene for a day of top class performances from Boy & Bear, The Waifs, Busby Marou and Tullara.  We’re very grateful for the Festivals Australia grant that will allow us to deliver this new and exciting part of the line-up,” said Erin Denham, Director M.A.D & RTW Event Coordinator.

“Tickets to RTSW were already incredible value with the calibre of performers on the line up.  We’re hoping that by adding this new element – with no additional charge to the public – ticket sales will see a nice boost.  Tickets are selling well but we need to make our targets by the end of April to ensure the funds raised for MAD allow us to continue feeding and supporting local homeless and disadvantaged.  The cost of living is really hitting hard, and we have more families than we’ve ever had teetering on the brink of homelessness – and for some it’s the meals that MAD provide that are the difference between having to choose between housing and feeding their kids.  The face of homelessness has really changed, and there’s a growing number of families in the Hastings who desperately need our help,” added Erin Denham.

In addition to the performance element of his involvement in Ride the Soundwave music festival, Mitch Tambo will also conduct workshops with local youth that will give participants an immersive, hands on experience.  Aimed at 150 High School students with a keen interest in music will be selected from various local schools to attend the Mitch Tambo song writing workshop.

Artist Jamie Donovan is also creating artwork for the event volunteer shirts while Tristram Morris, a proud local Indigenous man from Strong Spirit Aboriginal Services, will offer a cultural workshop with wife Jess, providing an insight in cultural activities, cultural tools & weapons.

The RTSW music festival is a ticketed event proudly sponsored by JOM, MAWAW, Flower Hotels and the Mercure. The music festival sits alongside the iconic Ride the Wave festival which includes surf and skate competitions, markets, food and beverage vendors, a family fun zone and other activities all available for spectators. The weekend is action packed with something for everyone including the 3-day RTW Junior Surf Pro proudly sponsored by Coastline Credit Union and InnerVision attracting some of the best groms, the epic Skate Competition sponsored by HEM Property (the team that knows a hot location better than anyone).

The inaugural Ride the Wave festival was staged in 2021 with the festival growing significantly in 2022 with support from the NSW Government, Port Macquarie Hastings Council and the generosity of many local businesses.

The event has moved from its original June calendar spot to April 2023 for the third iteration to take advantage of the warmer weather.

The music festival venue is also located alongside Port Macquarie’s largest caravan park (NRMA Breakwall Holiday Park) allowing visitors to stay on-site and walk to the festival, beach and skate park to enjoy everything that Ride the Wave has to offer.  Some of Port Macquarie’s best known holiday accommodation is also located within easy walking distance to the venue – with free parking also available for locals.

The ‘Barrel Room Bar’ will run inside the ticketed Ride the Soundwave music precinct – a chill out zone to enjoy a beverage while taking in all the action on stage.

The Ride the Wave festival partners with Major Event Sponsors Men and Women at Work, HEM Property, Coastline Credit Union, MBC Recruitment, John Oxley Motors, InnerVision, Flower Hotels, the Mercure & NRMA Breakwall Holiday Park with Optus coming on board as the official Comms partner.
