VN & SQ TO STRENGTHEN COMMERCIAL COOPERATIONVietnam Airlines and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have taken a significant step forward in their relationship by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement marks a new chapter in the commercial collaboration between the two airlines, which has been a long-standing partnership for over two decades.

The main aim of the MoU is to explore opportunities for codeshare arrangements between Vietnam and Singapore, with the potential for further expansion to other destinations served by SIA. This collaboration will offer passengers more value and options when travelling between the two countries. Additionally, the airlines will investigate other areas of commercial cooperation that can benefit their customers.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr Pham Minh Chinh, and Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Singapore, during the Vietnam-Singapore Business Forum on 10 February 2023.

As international border restrictions eased, both airlines saw the opportunity to expand their bilateral cooperation to provide quality service for their customers travelling between Vietnam and Singapore. Mr Le Hong Ha, Chief Executive Officer of Vietnam Airlines, said: “We are pleased to build on this agreement with our trusted partner Singapore Airlines – one of the world’s leading carriers. Singapore remains one of the most important markets for Vietnam Airlines, and we hope to leverage our joint capabilities to provide seamless experiences for our valued customers. This MoU will also establish a strong foundation for our future partnership and robust recovery after the pandemic.”

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, added: “Singapore Airlines and Vietnam Airlines have well-established networks that can support one another in strengthening the connectivity between the two ASEAN countries and to key markets around the world. These win-win arrangements will offer more options and greater value for our customers, support economic growth, and bolster initiatives that facilitate tourism activities.”

In conclusion, the MoU between Vietnam Airlines and SIA is a positive step towards strengthening the commercial relationship between the two airlines. The codeshare arrangements and other areas of commercial cooperation will offer passengers more value and options when travelling between Vietnam and Singapore and provide a foundation for a robust recovery after the pandemic.
