Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

Brisbane’s business events sector is poised to make a strong comeback this year, with the Convention Bureau of Brisbane Economic Development Agency delivering a staggering $90 million in economic impact to the city through the packed business events calendar. Hundreds of thousands of delegates are expected to arrive from all over the world to attend hundreds of conferences, providing a massive boost to the city’s reputation as a global business events destination. The return of international conferences, such as the International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science, is driving the boom.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner attributes the city’s growing reputation as a must-visit destination for international event organizers to Brisbane’s stunning precincts such as South Bank and Howard Smith Wharves, coupled with the city’s $14 billion pipeline of city-shaping projects. Brisbane’s status as the future host of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is also seen as a big draw for many event organizers, adding to the overall benefit of the city’s economy.

Anthony Ryan, CEO of Brisbane Economic Development Agency, believes the return of international travel is helping the sector rebound, and he looks forward to welcoming more international visitors to Brisbane this year, with a high percentage of conferences attracting overseas delegates. With a strong focus on science, health, technology, agriculture, and sustainability, Brisbane is fast becoming a world leader in these fields, which makes it an attractive destination for the brightest minds in the world to come together.

The Convention Bureau of Brisbane Economic Development Agency, in partnership with the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and other industry players, has worked hard to attract and secure conferences, and the key business events for 2023 include the Brisbane Truck Show, International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science, FIP World Congress of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Services, World Mining Congress, Asia Oceania Otorhinolaryngological Head and Neck Surgery Congress, and Annual Scientific Meeting for the Society of Reproductive Investigation.

All levels of government, industry partners, and suppliers are working together to leverage Brisbane’s unstoppable momentum. With the return of international conferences and an international spotlight on the city, Brisbane’s business events sector is set to deliver significant economic benefits, reinforcing its reputation as a must-visit destination for business events.
