The highly anticipated return of Australian Survivor is finally here, with the popular television show last night taking viewers back to where it all began – beautiful Samoa.

Returning to the island of Upolu, where the series was shot in 2016 and 2017, Australian Survivor: Heroes v Villains showcased Samoa’s picturesque ocean and rugged mountain ranges to over 447,000 viewers as contestants started battling it out in gruelling challenges to come out on top.

Australian Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia said: “The tropics and Samoa go hand in hand. One of the reasons we love going back to Samoa is because it’s such a beautiful tropical island and not built up like other destinations, it’s quite remote and that’s what makes it special.

“It feels right going back, the tropics have been the backdrop of Survivor for so many seasons, it’s good to return.”

The new series will see 12 former Australian Survivor castaways divided into two tribes based on their status as either a ‘hero’ or a ‘villain’.

Samoa Tourism Authority said  “We are excited to see the Australian Survivor cast ‘battle it out’ on our shores once again, and to share a piece of our beautiful Samoa with the rest of the world as they watch on from home.”

“We hope the show inspires travellers of all ages to visit our nation this year, to see our offerings up close and personal and experience a little Samoan adventure of their own”
