Colorado’s ski resorts have been hit by near-record snowfalls throughout January – with most ski resorts already receiving more snow this season than all of last season combined – and more expected this coming week across the state.

With no COVID restrictions barring us from visiting the USA for the first time in three years, a record number of Australians and New Zealanders are hitting the Colorado ski slopes, just at the right time to ski and snowboard the deepest powder.

Many Colorado ski resorts in mid-January received over 70 cms of snow in three days, including Telluride, Steamboat and Crested Butte, others having also surpassed (in January) snowfall records for the entire seasons of 2022, 2021 and 2020. Vail has reported that it has had the best ski conditions in decades, with The Sebastian, Vail, recently releasing deals for the remainder of the season in celebration, including 20% off on weekday stays until 30 April and $500 Experience Vail Resort credit for stays of 5+ days.

X Games – Aspen

Australian athletes are expected to win plenty of medals this weekend at one of the world’s most important independent winter events – the X Games Aspen. Held at Aspen for the 22nd consecutive year, seven-time X Games medal winner Scotty James will be defending his gold medal at the X Games’ most iconic event, the Superpipe.

Other champion Aussies expected to medal include Olympic bronze medallist and World Cup winner, Tess Coady, as well as teenage star, Valentino Guseli, who jumped 7.3 metres above the half-pipe at a World Cup Superpipe event in 2021, creating a new world record (bettering the legendary Shaun White).
