Shark Dive Xtreme, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s cage-less diving experience is back from 18 December 2022! One of only a few experiences in the world, guaranteeing thrill-seekers an underwater encounter with enormous sharks and rays.
The exhilarating Shark Dive Xtreme experience is relaunching after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, so daredevils can come face-to-fin with five different shark species, including huge Grey Nurse Sharks, Port Jackson Sharks and Wobbegong Sharks.
The two-hour adventure takes you behind the scenes for a safety briefing and introduction to scuba diving before you take the plunge and find yourself inside the shark’s domain, without a cage.
“Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a local marine life enthusiast, keen to come face-to-fin with, and learn more about these beautiful, endangered creatures, the return of Shark Dive Xtreme is something to be excited for and will educate you on SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s conservation efforts,” said Caleb Mantle, Shark Dive Xtreme diver team at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium.
“We’re inviting guests to meet with our Grey Nurse Sharks, including Murdock, Mary-Lou and Striker. The species have been called ‘man eaters’ but they’re not harmful to humans, we refer to them as the puppy dogs of the shark world. They are very intelligent, and each has their own personality. Mary-Lou is the classic shark who likes to swim high up, with her fin out of the water, and is always first to a feed,” added Caleb.
Never been diving? No worries! You don’t need any previous diving experience to take part in SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s Shark Dive Xtreme experience. This fully submersive experience is unlike anything else in Sydney and available to guests aged 14+, and runs twice a day, from Friday – Sunday.
The 2.5-hour experience starts at $329 per person and includes:
- Attraction entry
- Full diver training
- 30 min oceanarium dive
- All equipment, including full-length wetsuit, mask, gloves, boots and scuba diving equipment
- De-brief and Certificate
SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is home to 14 different species of sharks, who play an essential role in our ecosystem. Guests can learn from passionate aquarists, about these magnificent marine creatures, which are often misunderstood, and are under threat from overfishing, the demand for shark products and habitat destruction.
In 1984, the Grey Nurse Shark became the first shark species in the world to be awarded protected status. SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium supports conservation measures to protect the species, such as through the establishment of marine parks where fishing is prohibited.
