Amid calls to increase the pace of emission reductions to put the world on track to reach the 1.5 degrees Celsius goal, Vail Resorts is pleased to have surpassed its 2025 interim goal of 50% progress toward net zero three years early and has achieved 100% renewable energy in North America.
Five years after announcing its ambitious Commitment to Zero, the industry leader in sustainability has also reached 96% renewable energy worldwide and reduced market-based emissions by 17% YoY, for a total reduction of 53% from an FY 2017 baseline.
As it honours its commitments, the company continues to actively work to mitigate its impact on climate change, support its communities, empower its people, ensure equitable access to its resorts, and protect the future of the skiing and riding industry.
Other notable achievements of the past year include:
- Vail Resorts made its most significant single-year capital investment in energy efficiency projects, totaling $3.6 million USD.
- It donated $22.9 million USD to over 250 local organisations, working to address the various needs of its communities – from food and housing assistance and childcare to youth access programs and forest health.
- It provided $1.3 million USD in emergency relief grants and scholarships, including financial support to team members directly impacted by the Marshall Fire in Colorado.
- Vail Resorts hosted over 8,000 youth from its mountain communities, as well as from cities surrounding its resorts (Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and others) who otherwise might not have had access to skiing and riding and provided more than $8 million USD in donated goods and services.
- It continues to drive climate advocacy through participation in groups, including Ceres and RE100, and its leadership in the Mountain Collaborative for Climate Action.
