Rex yesterday paid special tribute to travel and aviation industry veteran, Max Kingston, following the sad news of his recent death. Aged 88, Max, who had recently suffered a fall, died at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital surrounded by his family.
Max began his career with the then Bank of NSW Travel Service in 1956, later working in a raft of countries all around the world. In 1992, he was appointed World President of Skål, the industry networking organisation.
Max was a Rex Ambassador for 18 years and a much-loved member of the Rex family Australia – wide. He regularly attended the airline’s functions from route launches to charity events, with his last public appearance being at Rex’s 20th birthday celebrations. “The Rex family lost a very dear friend and a fervent and constant supporter,” Rex’s Executive Chairman, Lim Kim Hai, said.
Fellow Rex Ambassador, former Federal Member for Riverina and a long-time champion of regional aviation, Kay Hull, led the tributes. “Max was an extraordinary gentleman that never lost sight of the ordinary and for whom the introduction of a walking stick made him even more distinguished. “He became a very dear friend to all of us over our time as Ambassadors, where the calls went from every few weeks to every few days all the way through the pandemic.
“His generous and caring nature extended to his shopping for food and essentials to collecting and putting out the garbage for all those who had Covid in his block of units. “He had such pride in recently being headhunted as Commissionaire for the Fullerton Hotel and what a gem they engaged. What Max has given to so many over his well-lived life cannot be measured. He will be in our hearts for all time,” Kay said.
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline operating a fleet of 61 Saab 340 and 7 Boeing 737 – 800NG aircraft to 58 destinations throughout all states in Australia. In addition to the airline Rex, the Rex Group comprises wholly owned subsidiaries Pel – Air Aviation (air freight, aeromedical and charter operator), the Australian Airline Pilot Academy with campuses in Wagga Wagga and Ballarat, and propeller maintenance organisation, Australian Aerospace Propeller Maintenance.
