New hotels in Aichi gearing up for the return of international travellers apan may have been closed to tourists during 2020 and 2021 as it worked to contain the Covid pandemic on its shores, but major hospitality operators did not remain idle, taking the time to invest for when the country’s borders reopened.
In Aichi Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, some incredible new hotels are being built in preparation for the coming surge of international travellers.
Here are just some of the new marquee hotels set to open their doors as tourists return.
Hotel Indigo Inuyama Urakuen Garden
Hotel Indigo’s latest foray into Japan first opened its doors in March of this year.
As with all Hotel Indigo hotels, the 156-room upscale boutique hotel fuses its own unique brand with the neighbourhood it’s housed within.
The hotel, which sits within Urakuen Garden, is located on the doorstep of the incredible Inuyama Castle and Kiso River, the border between Aichi and Gifu prefectures.
The hotel features wall art representing the landscape of the region and a restaurant focused on the flavours of Inuyama with a menu filled with seasonal produce from the area. Meanwhile the hotel’s bar – the BAR Yoyama – drew on inspiration from the local neighbourhood for its signature cocktails.
A major drawcard of the hotel is an indoor/outdoor spa drawing from the region’s only traditional hot spring, Inuyama Onsen Hakutei no Yu. The perfect place to spend some time after working out in the hotel’s cutting edge fitness centre.
TIAD
TIAD, a 14-story luxury hotel is being built in Nagoya’s central business district of Sakae and is scheduled to open in 2023.
Once completed the hotel will have 150 guest rooms including 13 suites and will have all the mod cons including two restaurants, a bar, a gym and indoor pool and three banquet rooms.
The hotel will have a modern, luxurious feel to it, offering a calm sanctuary for those wanting to explore central Nagoya.
TIAD is being developed by Nihon Ceremony, who operate a number of hotels across Japan including Hofu Grand Hotel in Hofu City, Yamaguchi.
Conrad Nagoya
Hilton has announced plans to open a hotel under its luxury Conrad brand in mid-2026 in downtown Nagoya.
Conrad Nagoya will be housed within 13-storeys of a new 41-storey mixed-use building, also in Sakae in Nagoya City.
The hotel will have 170 guestrooms, a rooftop bar, a gym, indoor pool and four restaurants as well as an executive lounge and a ballroom.
The building complex itself will house commercial and retail facilities, offices and a multiplex cinema and is connected directly to the Sakae Subway station underground.
