In 1884 Hotelier John Lennon built the stylish
Lennons Hotel, a 3-storey building on George Street. This hotel was knocked down in 1941 to raise the new and more substantial Lennons Hotel. In 1972 the building was yet again knocked down while the new site was being prepared, this site you join us on today, Queen Street; at the time was the tallest building in the city. The Lennons Hotel brand was a true icon in Queensland.
For 129 years the Lennons Hotel was “the Waldorf Astoria of NYC, or the Savoy of London for Brisbane”. In 1995 this hotel site became known as the Lennons Country Comfort Hotel and then Chifley at Lennons in 2003. Lennons Hotel was “the” place for VIPs, with iconic global VIP’s regularly in house. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, Australian Operatic Soprano, Dame Nellie Melba, Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, President Lyndon Johnson, US General Douglas MacArthur, telephone inventor, Alexander Graham Bell and The Beatles.
Many locals enjoy sharing their Lennons stories and is now our pleasure to continue to celebrate this treasured brand for a new era with Lennons Restaurant & Bar. Today we realise and honour the importance of this brand and its name in Queensland, and offer to you this new classic bistro menu, celebrating fresh produce and an exceptional range of beverages.
By day the restaurant will offer a 2 or 3 course lunch special or a la carte, offering affordable options appealing to busy corporates, shoppers and travellers, including all premium elements of the dinner menu. By night we will showcase an elevated bistro menu. The menu showcases a modern spin on familiar classics and service promises to make all guests feel relaxed, comfortable and effortless at the same time. Lennons Restaurant & Bar will be serving up classic bistro fair, Australian wines and spirit forward cocktails.
The menu created for Lennons Restaurant & Bar pays homage to classic bistro. Executive Chef Krisztian Herczig having recently joined the Hyatt group, will spotlight sustainable local produce and showcase techniques that he has honed in roles at the acclaimed Sydney Opera House, and previous hotel restaurants throughout Europe. “I’ve always been passionate about creating new and exciting dishes while only using local ingredients, working with local farmers, using native herbs, fruits and vegetables to support the indigenous community,” says chef Krisztian.
Chef’s Signature dishes that are a must to experience include; the Entrée of Ham hock terrine with toasted sourdough and roast pumpkin & coconut soup. Standout main, grain fed Black Angus Braised Beef brisket with potato skordalia and desserts showcase an iconic chocolate lava cake with a fresh raspberry cream and this winter a must is always apple and rhubarb crumble lovingly prepared by Pastry Chef Regina Rabanal.
Following Lennons Restaurant & Bar’s new menu launch you can look forward to a calendar of regular events, such as wine dinners in partnership with City Winery. Indulge in a divine four course meal including chef Krisztians signature dishes and four perfectly paired wines from City Winery, including their 2020 Gerler Reserve Shiraz. Settle in for an evening of amazing food and wine whilst taking in the story of City Winery’s outstanding micro-winery. City Winery sources grapes from across Australia’s key growing regions, bringing them to the city where Winemaker Dave Cush creates delicious wine. Available for two nights only, 24 – 25 August from 6 PM.
