The hotel of artists and thinkers in Paris, Le Meurice, continues Dorchester Collection’s series of bespoke private walking trails, designed exclusively for guests to follow in the footsteps of legendary artists.
From May 31, 2022, guests at Le Meurice will be able to discover Monet’s extraordinary story through the Revolutionary Brushstrokes trail which follows hot on the heels of Picasso’s Montmartre, the first trail launched in September 2021.
Revolutionary Brushstrokes delves deep into the question “why was Monet — who is almost universally admired today — considered so radical and rebellious in his day?” Accompanied by a passionate, knowledgeable guide, guests will uncover why he developed his renowned ‘plein-air’ technique, which subject matter most piqued the ire of the press and public, and how he turned the term ‘Impressionist’ from a critic’s slur into an artistic revolution.
The adventure begins on the doorstep of Le Meurice with a stroll through the beautiful Tuileries Garden, which inspired an 1876 painting of a view which is remarkably similar to one visible from the hotel’s own rooftop.
With lively dialogue in the company of an experienced guide, one-on-one or as part of a small, private group, guests will be able to pause and enjoy the beauty of Paris, as well as absorb thrilling anecdotes about the artist’s life and career, which will remain with them long after their stay.
The trail concludes at the Musée de l’Orangerie, amidst Monet’s jaw-dropping water-lily panels, the iconic chef d’œuvre of his mature work.
Each itinerary will be adapted, so that the trails are able to cater for both intrepid explorers who wish to refine their knowledge, as well as novices who may have visited Paris before but never delved deeper.
Helen Smith, chief customer experience officer, said: “Building on the buzz created by the Picasso’s Montmartre trail, we’re delighted to announce Monet – Revolutionary Brushstrokes as the next trail in the series. We were inspired by the discovery that Monet painted a view overlooking the Tuileries Garden from such an angle that he could have set up his easel on Le Meurice’s rooftop. This is a wonderfully unique experience, giving our guests the chance to get to know the ‘real’ Monet.”
In the coming months, Dorchester Collection’s series of “Follow in the footsteps of Legendary Artists” will be expanded to include Rodin at Le Meurice, and Caravaggio at Hotel Eden in Rome.
