The ancient treasures, quaint fishing villages, paella bars and sunny, chalk-white beaches of Spain and Portugal will be graced by the world’s largest sailing ship, Golden Horizon, in 2023, with Australian small ship cruising specialist, Cruise Traveller, combining two, back-to-back voyages to create a new, see-more holiday package that offers savings of up to A$2160 per couple if booked before the end of this year.

Cruise Traveller is the exclusive Australian representative for Tradewind Voyages, which operates the majestic, five-masted Golden Horizon.

Cruise Traveller’s new 18-night ‘Grand Spain and Portugal’ combo cruise package starts on April 17, 2023, with a night at a hotel in the lively Portuguese capital of Lisbon, famous for its tiny trams and delicious custard tarts. Guests then board the 272-guest Golden Horizon as she sets sail for 11 ports and islands along the shores of Portugal, Spain and France – many of them lesser-known gems and hideaways inaccessible by large cruise ships.

Destinations include the seafood restaurants of Portimao in Portugal, the ancient Spanish city of Cadiz, with its 100 watchtowers, the tapas bars of Motril, the walled old town of Cartagena and the pristine beaches and charming villages on the resort islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

Other destinations include the picture-postcard French fishing village of Collioure, Valencia – home to Spain’s famous paella, the seaside Roman amphitheatre of ancient Tarragona and the striking Gaudí architecture, cava bars, barrios and beaches of Barcelona, where the journey ends.

The 18-night ‘Grand Spain and Portugal’ package is available from A$14,325 per person, twin-share, in an oceanview cabin – a saving of A$605. In a deluxe balcony stateroom, fares are from $23,430 per person, twin-share – a saving of A$1080 per person or A$2160 per couple.  The savings are for bookings made by December 31, 2022.

Fares include a night, pre-cruise in Lisbon, onboard gratuities and the inclusions for Australians of onboard Wi-Fi, laundry (excluding dry cleaning) and an all-day beverage package. Flights from Australia are additional.

Launched last year, the 162m-long Golden Horizon is a modern, luxurious and spacious square rigger but also graceful and traditional in style, with UK-based Tradewind Voyages planning to have the eco-friendly vessel, which boasts 6300 square metres of billowing sails, under the sole power of wind for 70 per cent of the time. Golden Horizon offers modern-day seafarers a fine cuisine dining room, three pools, gym, library, spa sanctuary, four bars, a marina platform and a collection of kayaks, waterskis and wakeboards for guests to use. All 140 cabins offer ocean vistas.
