Arnold DonaldImagine Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald sitting in his office, seeing cruising throughout the world pretty well, except for Australia booming, yet here the government continues to procrastinate and fails to clear roadblocks to allow cruising to recommence here!
I reckon he would be quite justified to say enough is enough and forget Australia and New Zealand
This came further to a head yesterday over the pond, with P&O Cruises Australia announcing “uncertainty” in the market, has made it “difficult to sustain” its program in New Zealand and advising its New Zealand guests of the cancellation of its Auckland season.
P&O said that the announcement follows the absence of progress toward an agreed restart plan for cruising, with the cancellation affecting 21 cruises that were scheduled to depart from Auckland from 05 Jul to 27 Nov.
P&O Cruises Australia added, “As we work with Australia’s eastern seaboard state governments – New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria – on a framework and plan for the resumption of cruising in Australia, today we are announcing a further extension to our pause in operations.
The following P&O Cruises Australia departures are cancelled:

  • NEW – Auckland 2022 season – all departures on or before 27 November 2022
  • All other departures on or before 28 May 2022
  • Cairns – all departures on or before 29 June 2022
  • All Papua New Guinea itineraries on or before 3 October 2022.

What a disaster…not at sea, but in the inept corridors of power in Canberra and Auckland!
