Located in the heart of Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, the Mysa Motel is a boutique motel that opened its doors in March 2021 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The seven-room motel is owned and operated by local couple, Jase and Eliza, who have concocted a successful recipe for running a tourism business in these safety-conscious times.
When asked about their tips for operating a motel during a global pandemic, they said: “In an ever-evolving industry, we see our greatest strength and biggest opportunity as staying unique and true to our brand values, including sustainability and guest experience.”
“Post-COVID and its impact on the travel landscape, we think offering a contactless check-in, a boutique experience, and an unwavering commitment to safety and quality is the strongest future-proof approach.”
Spanning 800 square metres, The Mysa Motel accommodates 16 people at full capacity. It is an entirely self-service property, meaning guests access the motel and their room using a contactless self-check-in process revolving around a unique PIN code they receive via email upon booking.
“The way we’ve set up the motel, there’s no need for our guests to speak to, or encounter, another human during their stay with us,” Jase and Eliza said. “They appreciate that we only host 16 people at any one time – it gives them a sense of exclusivity and privacy. The space is generous for our capacity and there’s no common corridors, so people like that they can easily socially distance and walk straight from their car to their room.”
In addition to 1.5m social distancing signage and hand sanitiser that is mounted in the carport and pool areas, safe travel is made possible at the Mysa Motel thanks to each room’s private courtyard and hard surfaces that are easy to clean.
“Our rooms are a combination of tiles (even the bed heads are tiled), polished concrete and smooth timber, which means they’re easy to clean and keep clean – no dusty, mouldy nooks and crannies here!”
The Mysa Motel adheres to all Queensland Government requirements and is conscious of the health and safety of its guests.
