As travel resumes and people are making plans for 2022 Sacred Earth Journeys, specialist in transformational travel is introducing exclusive modern-day pilgrimages that steer travelers’ souls and soothe their growing desire for human connections and meaningful conversation.
Many of us have used terms like cloistered, sequestered, and monastic to describe our living situation over the past 18 months. It’s no coincidence that these words connote an existence supplemented with self-reflection, meditation, and personal spirituality, whatever form that may take. We’ve also discovered the importance of our natural environment, whether we’ve populated our living space with houseplants, taken up gardening, or added park strolls to our daily routines. Having lived these experiences has made our travel pursuits evolve.

In spring 2022, popular American author, filmmaker and mythologist, Phil Cousineau will guide small groups on modern-day pilgrimages to Italy and Greece. Pilgrimage is defined as “a journey with purpose.” As we emerge into the world of travel again, having added a spiritual presence to our daily lives, Sacred Earth Journeys invites travellers to carry this purpose to two of civilization’s spiritual cauldrons where, guided by Phil Cousineau, author of The Art of Pilgrimage (3rd edition recently released) will explore the history, mythology, who we are, and who we will become.

The Italian journey, La Dolce Vita: The Sweet Life of Mythic Italy with Phil Cousineau
(April 3-13, 2022) will convey a small group of explorers on, in Phil’s words, “a mythic adventure to the land of gods and goddesses, divine art, the pleasures of everyday life, and breath-taking scenery.”

In Greece ,In the Footsteps of Odysseus and Penelope with Mythologist Phil Cousineau
(April 18-29) Phil Cousineau will take the small groups on a curated odyssey of its own across the “wine-dark sea” and deep within contemporary scholarship and archaeology to reveal the spectrum of gods, goddesses, and the brilliant landscape from which they arose. Shortly after, he will be leading The Hydra Writers’ Retreat with Phil Cousineau (May 6-13) to further the “Long Conversations” for which Phil’s tours are legendary, a portal to contemplative discussion, self-reflection, and, ultimately, expression upon the page.

Recent articles in National Geographic and Travel + Leisure declare that pilgrimage is gaining popularity and becoming a major trend. “That’s not a surprise to us,” said Helen Tomei, founder of Sacred Earth Journeys. “After the long pause imposed on us, we’re delighted to see our guests travel again and have more people looking for life-changing journeys to some of the most soulful and sacred sites on earth.”

Sacred Earth Journeys will also operate another fascinating pilgrimage to India and Nepal, Finding Buddha with Dr. Miles Neale and Special Guest Tenzin Zopa (October 2022) with an exclusive pre-trip extension to the Hidden Land of the Himalayas in Sacred Tsum Valley. A trip of a lifetime led by world-renowned Buddhist psychotherapist, author and faculty member of Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Miles Neale.

Sacred Earth Journeys also operates small escorted tours to Peru, Mexico, Egypt and Morocco.
