It’s fiesta time at In The Hanging Garden on November 28, as DarkLab welcomes an exciting new resident kitchen to its central Hobart cultural precinct.
Mother Mexico will be serving up quick and tasty traditional Mexican cantina offerings, including family-friendly tacos, nachos, jalapeño poppers, fries, shared plates, and street snacks inspired by the neighbourhood cantinas of Mexico.
It’s the new casual eatery offering from St.J’s Deli founders Ben Korkmaz (ex-Born in Brunswick) and Simon Krambousanos, who opened their New York-style sandwich deli at the Liverpool Street entrance to the precinct during Dark Mofo 2021.
“Mother Mexico will be loud, vibrant, fast, fresh and fun,” said co-founder Simon Krambousanos. “We’re aiming to pair the beauty of long-established cantina flavours and techniques with the best of Tassie’s local and seasonal produce.”
This new culinary addition is the perfect summer offering for In The Hanging Garden, said DarkLab Venues Director Jez Heath.
“We’re really looking forward to the fun and colour that Mother Mexico will bring to our resident kitchens in the Garden, serving up Latin American dishes for a quick lunch bite, or a longer dinner over drinks. You can find them in the Garden’s dining area, alongside the ever-popular Oryza,” Mr Heath said.
Mother Mexico opens with a summery garden fiesta on Sunday 28 November from 1pm to 5pm, In The Hanging Garden, with Mona DJ Martin Blackwell spinning Latin American vinyl, plus special menu items and more.
