Move over Wrest Point, Mona is set to open Hobart’s latest ‘revolving’ restaurant with a renewed, and ever changing, Faro experience.
From Friday 1 October, Faro Bar + Restaurant will reintroduce itself as a restaurant of reinvention, with a series of specialty culinary takeovers. The evolving format will see Faro reimagined every few months, from what’s on diners’ plates right through to the live entertainment.
Building on the success of 2020’s Faro Experiments, these high concept dining experiences will challenge audiences with experimental dishes, music, performance, cocktails and more.
First up is a celebration of the energy, chaos and attitude of ‘Tokyo Punk’. From there, Faro’s award-winning chefs and bar staff will explore new eras, places, and vibes to routinely revamp and redefine the restaurant’s very core.
Vince Trim, Executive Chef, Mona, says: ‘We’ve never really been able to say what style of restaurant Faro truly is—it’s an enigma. We do know it’s a place where music and performance are as much a part of the experience as the art and food. Now we’re taking things up a notch and plan on changing direction every couple of months depending on how the boss feels. So if you’re feeling lucky (punk) and want a mind trip to Tokyo, we start spinning new tunes in October.’
Throughout the changing formats one key element will remain: an elephant in the middle of the room which will serve as a tongue in cheek suggestion box for punters to share their feedback.
Faro will be offering a set menu ($150pp including drinks) for midday lunches and 6pm dinner sittings from Friday to Monday. A luxe set menu experience ($350pp including matched wines and entry to James Turrell’s Event Horizon and Unseen Seen) will also be available, with an even bigger mystery feast from Mona’s Executive Chef, rare bottles and back vintages direct from David’s cellar and an expert sommelier on hand to share their wine expertise.
Faro’s revolving restaurant begins 1 October and will continue for the foreseeable future.
Faro’s ‘Tokyo Punk’ iteration will conclude on Monday 29 November, with the next restaurant takeover (beginning 3 December) yet to be confirmed. Bookings are limited.
