Qantas: the flag carrier of Australia has been at the forefront to revive the aviation industry. Unfortunately, aviation and tourism have been severely hurt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, to sack off the receding business, Qantas has recently launched a new policy for revival.

The massive losses

With the advent of coronavirus, the tourism, hospitality, and aviation industries got off road. And, the hope for revival is getting mistier because of countrywide surge in cases, including more than 1,000 positive cases in NSW and about 100 in Victoria each day.

It is saddening as Australia performed comparatively better in the first wave of coronavirus. The aviation industry was hopeful of revival, Qantas had announced its new package to promote travel early this year.

Another boom which came was the launch of the air travel bubble with New Zealand in March. However, that bubble got suspended due to rising cases in Australia. Aussies never expected that they would be homebound in 2021 as well.

But with Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement to keep the border shut for international travel, the dreams to travel also got shut.

The 2020 annual aviation report by The Australian Airports Association (AAA) showed that total passengers dropped by 26.5% compared to the previous financial year and profits plunged by more than 55%.

Thus, until and unless people are not protected against coronavirus, the aviation industry cannot revive. To shoot two targets with one arrow: promote people to get vaccinated and increase the demand for travel, Qantas has launched a new policy.

Free points and flight vouchers for vaccinated travellers

Qanats is offering a chance to get free flights for a year, but only to fully vaccinated people. Qantas is emphasising on the need of vaccination and asserting the significance of vaccinated travellers in the journey towards revival.

Additionally, international destinations would be included once borders reopen. The airline is also offering free accommodation vouchers. Qantas’ move is considered extremely positive for the Australian aviation industry’s revival and for boosting the vaccination drive.

The aviation owners believe that this move will pay the due acknowledgement to the responsible Aussies who have already gotten their COVID-19 jabs on time. The aviation industry is playing the due heed to the significance of getting vaccinated.

Vaccination will help Australians to fly again, travel again and relive the beauty of their motherland. And, now travel would be fun, safer, and more affordable with such policies.

How to avail?

Fully vaccinated Australian-based Frequent Flyers who are 18 and above can now claim their reward through the Qantas App by choosing one of the three options:

  • 1000 Qantas points
  • 15 status credits (To help Frequent Flyers move up between Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers)
  • AUD 20 flight discount for Qantas or Jetstar

Later, members would be added to the mega prize draw list. Winners would win free flights for a year, along with accommodation and fuel. A total of 10 mega prizes are divided based upon states and territories.

With a new way of making travel easier, safer, and cheaper, Qantas has taken significant steps having manifold benefits. The revival of the Australian economy entirely depends upon more and more people getting vaccinated. Thus, the government officials and citizens, both need to be responsible and reliable to help the country revive.
