Four members of our cruise industry put their general duties on hold last week to step up for a higher (school) cause. They were issued with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and geared up to assist Sydney’s Higher School Certificate Students with their first COVID-19 vaccination and subsequent COVID-19 tests. An initiative of NSW Health, the Qudos Bank Arena pop-up Vaccination Centre, was established at Sydney’s Olympic Park and operated from Monday 9 to Saturday 15 August.

“On walking into the Vaccination Centre, I was immediately struck with the thought that the multiple booths within the big hall weren’t too dissimilar to a travel expo set up”, said Walter Nand from Unique Cruises.  “Cruiseco’s Steve Dodds brought me back to reality when he pointed out that, unlike a travel expo, the dress code was being followed”.

Cruiseco’s Greg Wilson noted that, “It was inspiring to see so many students amenable to what was required to have them achieve their educational goals”.

With support from our hard-working four, the Centre vaccinated more than 10,000 students over the week.
