After what has been a challenging time, covered extensively in the media, things seem to be on the up and up for AFTA, the peak body in Australia representing the retail travel industry, as the organisation announced today that it is enjoying strong endorsement from its members with over 80% of members having already renewed and more still submitting.

AFTA says that given the devastating reality of the impact of COVID on so many businesses, this is quite a remarkable outcome, addign that through the ongoing support of members AFTA can continue to lobby daily on behalf of travel agents throughout Australia to secure support from the Government.

AFTA is confident these agents will re-emerge early 2022 with the vaccination hurdles reached and travel reopening.

In the meantime, after the surprise departure in April of short lived CEO Darren Rudd, AFTA recently announced the appointment of Dean Long as AFTA’s CEO, joining the organisation in October.

Dean is joining AFTA after two years leading Australia’s Accommodation Association, having previously worked for AFTA as its head of public policy and strategic partnerships and he has also held roles at American Express, the NSW government and Destination NSW.
