In response to the hundreds if not thousands of emails sent to him as part of CLIA’s #ReadySetSail campaign Federal Minister for Tourism Dan Tehan has snubbed the respondents by issuing a standard, very brief and what has been described as a pathetic response.
While he thanked the cruise industry for its correspondence in relation to #ReadySetSail, he said that the Australian Government is aware of the contribution the sector makes toward the country’s economy, adding “The Government will continue to consult with the industry, and the states and territories, on options for the staged resumption of cruising when the medical advice is that it is safe to do so”, although CLIA said today that the Federal Government had made no progress in relation to the return of cruising.
Tehan did not acknowledge CLIA in any way or individual cruise lines and there was no indication of any pathway to resumption, despite his previous undertakings, with the travel industry at large and the cruise sector devastated by this snub, with the consensus being that there is little hope the cruise ban will be lifted on September 17, 2021.
