Being industry people, I like to keep you updated on what is happening within the industry regarding covid and travel restrictions. The cruise industry locally is enduring a long wait and uncertain path to restarting cruises within our domestic waters with many cruise lines redeploying their ships to other parts of the world where cruising is resuming. Our summer cruise season has already been adversely affected by this which is a major economic blow to the many segments of the industry, for a second year in a row.
However, today we heard there has been some significant noise made in Canberra to a listening group of 15 MP’s who are throwing their weight behind a cruise resumption, lead by the Hon Warren Entsch. Entsch has stated he and his colleagues are strong advocates for the resumption, underlined by a sound understanding of the economic consequences. They also advocate that if we can fly people from Australia to New Zealand, there is no reason why we can’t cruise them there. Let’s hope the rumblings in Parliament get some action and produce a pathway for our Cruise Lines.

Celebrity Cruises has cancelled their Australia and New Zealand sailings on Eclipse until 03 January 2022. Their itineraries go through to April 22 and include Australia Coast, Pacific Islands as well as Australia & New Zealand. We also have departures over the 22/23 summer season at industry rates.
