The iconic Great Australian Dunny Race is back at Queensland’s most “Aussie” location on the Sunshine Coast, so get your mates together and enter a team for your chance to win $5,000!
The Banana Bender Pub at Aussie World Palmview on the Sunshine Coast will host The Great Australian Dunny Race World Championships on Sunday 18 July with teams from all over Australia expected to compete in the event.
Normally held as part of Aussie World’s Australia Day celebrations, the date has been moved to give the iconic race centre stage, complete with a day filled with family fun.
The famous race started back in 1990 at Aussie World, and was the brainchild of Lindsay “Coop” Cooper and a few other locals, quickly becoming one of the Sunshine Coast’s most unique and enduring events.
Banana Bender Manager Shannon Fay said, “We are looking forward to welcoming back the Great Australian Dunny Race, which has become a favourite family event here at Aussie World.”
“There’s still a few spots available for teams and anyone can enter, as long as you recruit four runners and one jockey to race the dunny, and don’t forget to create your team uniform.”
There will be several heats raced over a 100-metre distance and the top two teams in each heat will progress through to the next round.
Team registration is free but spaces are limited and must be submitted by Friday 9 July 2021.
Tickets are on-sale to the general public from $10 per person and include the dunny races, live music and entertainment, a range of craft beer tents and food trucks, as well as jumping castles and climbing walls, with guests getting the chance to upgrade to include the rides and attractions of Aussie World, including the all-new thrill ride – SX360!
