Two little blue penguins are celebrating their birthdays at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium today ahead of the school holidays!
Pebbles and Dennis, who turned five and four respectively this week, were treated to brightly coloured birthday cakes made of jelly and pilchards. The birds were clearly impressed with their treats, jumping all over them before gobbling it up!
“We had such fun celebrating Pebbles and Dennis today and could see they loved every minute of it. Pebbles, Dennis and the rest of the little blue penguins here are ambassadors for their species, inspiring the public and helping them understand the threats facing their wild relatives and what they can do to help protect them,” said Daisy Lodge, Penguin Keeper at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast.
Today’s penguin party comes ahead of the school holidays, which kick off this weekend. Guests to SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast over the next two weeks can discover the Teeth & Tails of aquatic animals as they go on a journey through the underwater world!
Until Sunday 11 July, kids will receive a Teeth & Tails activity booklet and the Aquarium’s marine experts will be on hand to discuss the form and function of sea creatures’ body parts at the artefacts station from 9am – 2pm. The Teeth & Tails adventure will help guests unearth fascinating facts about little blue penguins, moray eels, seals, seahorses, sea stars, grey nurse sharks and cownose rays.
SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast is also excited to announce the name of the cownose ray pup who was born at the Aquarium earlier this year! The team has chosen to name the baby ray “Raya”, which was submitted by Michelle Higginbotham from the Sunshine Coast.
