A new book, Innocently Guilty, by a new young writer, Ashling Bourke, reflects her extensive experience of Malawi. It was published by The Conrad Press since February 15 2021.

Synopsis: When Lottie Sheldon is sent to an international summer camp in Malawi after tragic events in London, nothing will be the same again for her. The African bush offers something the glittering lights of London, parties, boys and shopping did not: the truth and what really matters.

Now living and studying at a university in Scotland, Ashling, 25, grew up in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Even though the book is not autobiographical, and Camp Kulingana does not exist in reality, Ashling used her childhood memories and travels around the country as a backdrop to the story. The Warm Heart of Africa, as Malawi is known, takes Lottie to well known tourism hotspots including Liwonde National Park, Luwawa Forest Lodge and Mumbo Island on Lake Malawi – all places which Ashling herself has visited many times. Ashling’s past work experience in American and British summer camps were also used as an inspiration to the story.
