The world’s largest and newest sailing ship, Golden Horizon, will treat Australians to an unforgettable festive season this December as part of a voyage along the Great Barrier Reef and through the Whitsunday Islands from Cairns to Sydney.
To add to the unique adventure, Australia’s leading small ship cruise specialist, Cruise Traveller, has created two new stay and tour extensions in Cairns or Port Douglas before the cruise showcasing the only place on Earth where two natural World Heritage sites – the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest – exist side by side.
The two exclusive holiday packages are:
* Cairns extension package – An 18-night holiday starting on December 19, 2021, with three nights in a Cairns hotel including breakfast, a forest cultural tour and a brewery and distillery tour. Guests will then board the 272-passenger Golden Horizon in Cairns on December 22 for a 15-night voyage south to Sydney via Townsville, the Whitsunday Islands for Christmas, Brisbane, Noosa, a memorable sail past the Gold Coast on New Year’s Eve for the fireworks and also visits to Trial Bay and Newcastle in NSW. The cruise ends in Sydney on January 6, 2022, when scores of spectators are expected to flock to the harbour to witness the inaugural arrival in the harbour of the huge 162m-long sailing ship. The cruise and Cairns extension package is available from $11,080 per person, twin-share.
* Port Douglas extension package – A 20-night holiday starting on December 17, 2021, with five nights in a Port Douglas hotel including breakfast, a Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation tour, Mossman Gorge cultural tour and a morning food trail tour. Guests will then board the five-masted Golden Horizon in Cairns on December 22 for the Christmas and New year cruise south to Sydney. The cruise and Port Douglass extension package is available from $12,080 per person, twin-share.
Cruise Traveller is also offering a 16-night package including a pre-cruise night in Cairns and the voyage to Sydney from $11,100 per person, twin-share.
The fares are available to May 30, 2021, and include pre-cruise accommodation, beer and wine with lunch and dinner aboard the ship, onboard gratuities and use of the ship’s extensive water sports equipment including water skis, pico sailboats, kayaks, windsurfers, stand up paddle boards, snorkelling gear and a floating island and trampoline for fun in the water off the ship’s marina platform.
Cruise Traveller is the exclusive Australian representative for new UK-based cruise line, Tradewind Voyages, which will debut the brand new Horizon this June and bring her to Australia next summer with her traditional nautical trimmings and gleaming wood and brass. Since the launch of Golden Horizon’s maiden Australian season in November, 2020, Cruise Traveller has received a wave of bookings from Australians captivated by romantic and unique voyages aboard the ship which is expected to travel under the sole power of wind for 70 per cent of the time, thanks to 6300 square metres of billowing sails.
Graceful, spacious and traditional in style, Golden Horizon is a modern, luxurious and eco-friendly sailing ship offering a relaxed but elegant ambience, fine cuisine restaurant, three pools, gym, library, spa sanctuary, four bars and a marina platform. All 140 cabins will offer ocean vistas.
