Premier beachfront resorts Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island, Fiji have again been well represented in the recent annual Fiji Tourism Excellence Awards. Postponed from last year due to COVID restrictions, the awards for 2019 took place at the recently refurbished Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa ballroom last week, Friday March 19.
The awards theme was “Celebrating Excellence In People and Product” and acknowledged the dedication and commitment of outstanding personnel in the tourism industry and innovative tourism products for 2019.
Castaway Island took out the ‘Deluxe Accommodation’ award, while two individual team members from Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort were successful finalists. Activities manager, who was with outrigger for over 14 years, Mr Kini Sarai was presented with the coveted ‘Fiji Pride Champion’ award and the ‘Emerging Tourism Leader’ award was won by Sous Chef Mr Navneet Reddy, who has been in the food and beverage sector of the resort for ten years.
Darren Shaw, general manager for Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, said he was extremely proud of the team members who were nominated and collected such esteemed awards.
Mr Shaw added, “I am pleased that the successful finalists have won the recognition they deserve as their dedication and commitment to their roles and the property has greatly contributed to the outstanding reputation the resort has within the Fijian tourism industry and international partners.”
In receiving the Deluxe Accommodation award, general manager Steven Andrews said although the award is for 2019, receiving it now during these challenging times, has lifted the morale of the Castaway Island family and has encouraged the team to keep the consistency of service and care as we anticipate the reopening of the international borders.
“We would like to dedicate this award to those Castaway hosts that were made redundant in 2020 due to this pandemic. This recognition would not have been possible without their efforts and we hope to strengthen the team again once the borders are reopened.”
Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort had finalists in five categories including three individual team members and the award-winning Bebe Spa and IVI Restaurant.
