Key members of the Inbound International Business Events Sector gathered at the Hyatt Regency in
Sydney for the first time since the commencement of the Pandemic. The specialist group including representatives from Accor, IHG and Penny Lion from Tourism Australia discussed common objectives to address the devastating effects of closed Australian borders and the impact to international clients. The international business events sector has no alternative means of revenue and faces perilous consequences to survive and rebound effectively once the world returns to a COVID safe environment.

Participants confirmed support for the major industry lobbyists, BECA and ATEC and will contribute
data of the inbound landscape to demonstrate the value of the sector. With global business unlikely to return prior to 2022, this sector is looking for solutions to preserve the skills, experience and resources to ensure immediate operations when overseas events and clients return.

Tourism Australia are rolling out global campaigns focused on the unique selling proposition of
Australia to remain top of mind to global corporate companies. Bill Wright who convened the
meeting stated, ‘This group was a good mix of key global industry representatives who are keen to
bring back business events in a safe environment to one of the safest countries in the world and
overcome the hurdles inflicted during 2020.”
