On 16 December, Cathay Pacific will launch the first ever seasonal cargo service between Hobart and Hong Kong. The new seasonal service shows the airline’s continued support of local Australian exporters whilst meeting the growing demand to move a wide range of fresh produce from Hobart to various parts of Asia via Hong Kong, the key Asian Logistics Hub.
The airline is pleased to announce it is the first non-charter international carrier to operate a cargo service direct from Hobart for over 20 years (since 1998).
The inaugural flight on 16 December 2020 will see Cathay Pacific Cargo operate a seasonal service up until 10 February 2021 using reconfigured Boeing 777 aircraft.
This new Hobart service is in addition to Cathay Pacific Cargo’s existing list of Australian destinations, including Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Wellcamp, Perth and Melbourne, as the airline looks to assist in the rebuild of the export industry post the COVID-19 pandemic.
The seasonal service that will be operational from December through to February will carry over 40 tonnes per flight of valuable fresh local Tasmanian produce including:
- Tasmanian seafood – lobster, salmon, eels and abalone
- Fresh produce – cherries, strawberries and raspberries
- Chilled dairy – fresh milk, yoghurts and cheeses
- Chilled meat
Rakesh Raicar, General Manager for Southwest Pacific Cathay Pacific, comments, “We are incredibly pleased to be adding this seasonal cargo service from Hobart, in what has been an undeniably tough year for all industries. The service will play an integral role in delivering highly sought-after fresh Tasmanian produce to key Asian markets.”
Cathay Pacific Airways is one of the world’s leading international air cargo carriers, currently flying to 46 destinations around the world, and has helped to build Hong Kong into the world’s busiest air cargo hub.
