New Zealand’s number one travel podcast, Kiwi Tripsters will host a special episode focussed on state of the Trans-Tasman cruise industry and its road to recovery. The episode will be hosted by Mike Yardley with an exclusive talkback with industry leaders, Joel Katz, Managing Director, Australasia at Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Kevin O’Sullivan from Cruise New Zealand.
“The impact of Covid-19 on the worldwide cruise industry has been devastating with $50 Billion in losses, 334,000 job losses and $15 Billion in lost wages. As the pandemic continues and closes in on almost a year, it’s important for the general public to know when and in what shape and size they can expect to be cruising again”, says Harmeet Sehgal, of Travel Media Limited.
“With thousands of people keen to cruise again and thousands of New Zealand jobs dependent on cruise tourism, it’s important that there’s discussion on a pathway towards resumption and the health measures that will support future operations, added Harmeet.

Joel Katz of CLIA said cruise lines had committed to extensive new measures to uphold health and safety for passengers, crew and the communities that cruise lines visit.
“While cruising has been suspended, cruise lines have been hard at work developing measures that go far beyond those of almost any other industry,” he said. “Leading medical experts from around the world have been helping to create new health protocols covering every aspect of a cruise, from the time a passenger books through until they return home after the journey.”
