Scoot has today resumed regular scheduled passenger services from Melbourne to Singapore for the first time since the route was temporarily suspended in March due to Covid-19. With current regulatory constraints on inbound traffic into Melbourne until 21 November 2020, only flights from Melbourne to Singapore will carry passengers, until restrictions lift.

The revived passenger services will be able to meet demand for repatriation travel from Australia, especially to India. Scoot has so far conducted five repatriation flight charters carrying over 1,600 passengers returning to India from Australia since September, including two from Melbourne to India cities Amritsar and Chennai.

In addition, as an alternative revenue stream, Scoot has also pivoted to carrying more cargo on its flights, in the bellyhold of aircraft, as well as operating cargo-only flights. There have been almost 130 Scoot cargo-only flights flown between Perth and Singapore since June 2020.

Scoot’s widebody 787 Dreamliners are returning to ply the Melbourne-Singapore route at a reduced frequency of one direct flight per week. Scoot customers can transit through Singapore Changi Airport from Melbourne and connect to destinations in the SIA Group network currently operated by SIA, SilkAir or Scoot. Pre-Covid, Scoot operated 10 – 12 return flights weekly between Singapore and Melbourne.

The resumed Melbourne-Singapore services joins Scoot’s three-times weekly services between Perth and Singapore. It expands Scoot’s active network to 19 destinations in Asia Pacific, as of the month of November. Scoot’s latest flight schedule from Australia can be found here.

Peace of Mind Across All Touchpoints

Scoot has in place extensive measures to ensure the health and safety of passengers, from health checks for passengers and crew and enhanced cabin cleaning procedures, to safe distancing measures across all touch points and adoption of a low-touch service model onboard. To minimize surface and physical contact, customers can complete their check-in process online before heading to the airport for all flights departing from Singapore and Australia[1]. Self-service check-in at Singapore Changi Airport and Melbourne Tullamarine Airport are also possible to minimise interaction with ground staff.

Passengers are reminded to wear a mask when they leave home in Melbourne including the airport, and they will be required to keep their mask on throughout the flight. In Singapore, mask wearing is also mandatory when leaving home.

To allow customers to plan ahead and book with confidence, Scoot has extended a one-time free date change for all new bookings made from now till 31 January 2021.

Travelling to Singapore

All travellers, including Singapore citizens and permanent residents, entering Singapore are required to pre-book and pay for a Covid-19 test[2] and submit an SG Arrival Card. From 30 October 2020, foreigners who are short-term visitors travelling from Australia including Victoria State, may apply for an Air Travel Pass for entry into Singapore on or after 6 November 2020. Travellers will not need to serve the 14-day stay-home notice if their test result is negative. While Australians still require government approval to leave the country, the Air Travel Pass scheme between Singapore and Australia could be an early indicator of easing travel restrictions between both countries.
