Hilton Chicago has donated 100 brand-new televisions to the Chicago Furniture Bank to help support Chicagoans in need. The Chicago Furniture Bank is a non-profit organization that provides furniture for people moving from shelters into permanent housing.
Having first opened its doors in 1927 and a member of Historic Hotels of America®, Hilton Chicago has served as one of the city’s most cherished establishments for over 90 years. While the hotel is temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the property was able to organize a donation of 100 extra unused television sets for deserving families and plans to donate other furnishings in the future as inventory becomes available for charitable contribution.
“We are very happy to be able to donate to Chicago Furniture Bank,” said John Wells, General Manager Hilton Chicago. “The organization is a beacon of new beginnings for many and we are proud to help support the initiative, especially during these trying times.”
The Chicago Furniture Bank aids in arranging a comfortable, helpful, and stable transition for Chicagoans leaving homelessness and moving into permanent housing. With a referral from one of the CFB’s partnered 350 social service agencies, individuals and families can select furniture from the Chicago Furniture Bank warehouse for their new homes. In two years, the organization has furnished over 3,000 homes for nearly 8,000 clients moving into permanent housing and distributed 1,875 tons of furniture that would have likely ended up in land-fills. Today, the organization furnishes 10 homes per day through its 350+ nonprofit partners.
“We are so appreciative to have the support of Hilton Chicago and look forward to a long term partnership,” said Griffin Amdur, Co-Executive Director, Chicago Furniture Bank. “It is rare that the bank receives a donation of TVs, especially of this quantity in brand new condition. They are going to help transform our clients empty houses into warm homes.“
Since the start of the pandemic, Hilton Chicago has lent support to those facing challenging times. The property donated care kits Catholic charities to help those in need and created a weekly initiative called Thankful Tuesdays along with sister properties Palmer House and The Drake, where Hilton partners connected virtually to share challenges and successes within their respective industries. The addition of the partnership with Chicago Furniture Bank emphasizes the ongoing commitment by the Hiltons of Chicago to supporting its community and partners.
