Entries for the 2019 Sydney Rides photography competition are now open, with the top 30 bike-inspired images displayed in Paddington Reservoir Gardens in October.

“This exhibition is a fantastic insight into the many ways people use bikes in our city, and we always receive such a diverse range of entries” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

“With more people using our network of bike paths every day, , the Sydney Rides festival is time to celebrate and remind people how safe, fun and convenient riding in our city can be.”

The City of Sydney competition last year saw more than 500 entries. The winning photo was taken by Julie Stinson who snapped her son Oscar cheering his dad racing at Sydney’s White Bay Criterium.

‘I was so surprised we won. I knew the photo captured a unique family moment, but I took it on my iPhone,” Julie said.

“We used the prize money to buy me a bike. It was such a great competition. I advise everyone to get out their smartphones or cameras and enter.”

Oscar’s day-care in Paddington took his class for an excursion to see the image in the outdoor gallery.

“Oscar was so excited. He just loved the picture because it featured both his dad and his favourite Transformer.”

The top 30 images will be displayed at the Paddington Reservoir Gardens in October. Each photographer featured receives a cash prize and the winner a $750 voucher.

The competition is part of Sydney Rides 2019, which will feature dozens of events over spring including The Big Adventure, Spring Cycle and the night-time spectacular – Light the City.
