Tiaki Promise
New Zealand’s tourism industry has unified to launch a major initiative – Tiaki Promise. Tiaki Promise is an international visitor pledge which encourages all visitors to experience New Zealand in a way that keeps them safe, protects the natural environment, respects all cultures and preserves the country for future generations.
New Zealand is the first country in Oceania to roll out an international visitor pledge and is a collaboration between seven key organisations across the public and private sector – Air New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, the Department of Conservation, Local Government New Zealand, New Zealand Māori Tourism, Tourism Holdings Ltd and Tourism Industry Aotearoa. Visitors are promoted to visit tiakinewzealand.com, and share their promise via social media using #TiakiPromise.
The Cloudy Bay Shed
The Cloudy Bay Shed is the brand-new cellar door of the renowned Cloudy Bay winery. Nestled between the bronzed hills of their Northburn Vineyard and Lake Dunstan in the Central Otago region, the new tasting room will offer the full range of Cloudy Bay wines, with the opportunity to book private tastings, or a range of custom-made experiences, including vineyard tours by land and by air.
Wildwire Wanaka’s Lord of the Rungs
It’s wild, wet and 450 metres high. Wildwire Wanaka’s Lord of the Rungs is the world’s highest via ferrata waterfall climb in the world and New Zealand’s newest adventure #mustdo. An experience for outdoor lovers and thrill seekers alike, the location sits alongside the spectacular Twin Waterfalls. The climb to the top follows a kilometre of cables, weaving over, above and behind the waterfalls, sheer rocky hillside, blue pools and crosses a 35metre, double wire bridge.
The Waitaki Whitestone aspiring UNESCO global geopark
UNESCO Global Geoparks are unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of geological significance are protected for future generations. The Waitaki Whitestone geopark is a natural park boasting an abundance of unique geological features, including the Moeraki Boulders, karsted limestone at Elephant Rocks, and “badlands” and faults at Clay Cliffs. If approved by UNESCO, it will be the only Global Geopark in New Zealand. The geopark gives visitors a look into the ancient landscape of New Zealand and is a celebration of land, elements, geology and how they have combined to shape New Zealand’s people, their stories, past and future.
Heritage Dunedin Leisure Lodge
Heritage Hotels has recently added Dunedin Leisure Lodge to its portfolio, with the respected hotel officially opening on 1 May 2019. The hotel is designed by award-winning architects, Warren and Mahoney, on the former site of the McGavin Brewery which brewed its last beer in 1958. Close to Dunedin’s CBD, the four-star hotel is set across two acres of park-like grounds and boasts 76 hotel rooms, a restaurant and bar, plus, several conference rooms.
Gondola at Whakapapa Ski Area, Mt Ruapehu
Mt Ruapehu’s Whakapapa Ski Area, located in the North Island, is set to be transformed in 2019 with a new gondola opening in June – one of only two designs in the world. The gondola will transform the mountain into a year-round, world class visitor attraction for skiers and sightseers. Visitors will be transported through the UNESCO dual World Heritage Tongariro National Park to the architecturally designed Knoll Ridge Chalet at 2020m above sea level.
