Australia Zoo was proud to team up with the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation for the third year, creating unforgettable experiences for young Australians impacted by family mental illness.
Australia Zoo welcomed 96 young people across three activity days as part of the Kookaburra Kids program, combining unforgettable wildlife experiences and conservation shows with mental health education delivered by Kookaburra Kids.
Wildlife conservationist Terri Irwin said, “The Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation plays an important role in supporting young people through mental health challenges. At Australia Zoo, we recognise the importance of mental health and wellbeing, and the need to ensure young people have access to meaningful support, education and opportunities to connect with others.”
The activity days provide opportunities for young Australians facing similar challenges to connect. Participants engaged in group chats and mindfulness activities with Kookaburra Kids staff, enhancing their mental health education and developing important help-seeking skills. By blending fun with learning, Kookaburra Kids ensures that every participant feels supported, connected, and empowered.
“We are proud to work with inspiring groups and charities like Kookaburra Kids who are making a difference in the world,” Terri said.
The CEO of Kookaburra Kids, Séan O’Halloran, said, “We are so thankful for the support that we have had from Australia Zoo. They’re providing us with activity days that will allow a group of young people impacted by family mental illness to enjoy a day at Australia Zoo, in addition to connecting with other young people who share similar experiences.”
With over 1,200 animals, Australia Zoo connects guests with wildlife, inspiring future generations to protect our wildlife and wild places. This collaboration not only creates lasting memories but also provides young Australians with the tools they need for a healthier, more supported future.
“We aim for a really positive experience, and that’s certainly the outcome that we’ve achieved in working with Australia Zoo over the last few years,” said Séan.
