The Ritz-Carlton, Portland announces the appointment of Jack Strong as executive chef, overseeing the culinary vision and operations across the property’s food and beverage program, including signature restaurant Bellpine, Meadowrue, in-room dining, banquets and special events. An Oregon native and enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Strong has built his career around celebrating the region’s diverse ingredients while drawing inspiration from Indigenous traditions and global culinary influences. As a two-time James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef, most recently in the Northwest & Pacific region in 2026, Strong brings nearly three decades of luxury hospitality experience to the role.
“Chef Jack is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected culinary leaders. He has an exceptional ability to create dining experiences that are both deeply rooted in place and genuinely memorable,” said Marie Browne, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Portland. “His vision complements the property’s celebration of Oregon’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, and we’re excited to see that reflected throughout our culinary program.”
Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Portland, Strong served as executive chef at The Allison Inn & Spa in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where he led the property’s culinary transformation through new restaurant concepts, expanded banquet operations, and community-focused initiatives. His distinguished career also includes executive chef roles at properties in Arizona, including the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa and the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel.

“I’m honored to join The Ritz-Carlton, Portland and lead such a talented culinary team,” said Strong. “The Pacific Northwest offers some of the world’s finest ingredients, and I’m excited to continue celebrating the region through thoughtful, seasonal menus across each of the hotel’s dining experiences. Every menu is an opportunity to showcase the incredible people, products and traditions that make this region so special, and I look forward to sharing that experience with our guests.”
Beyond the kitchen, Strong is an advocate for preserving and celebrating Indigenous culinary traditions. He has collaborated with Native organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest and co-authored the cookbook “The New Native American Cuisine.”
