Aurora Expeditions has launched Aurora Advisor Advantage, a new trade program that gives travel advisors earlier pay, better sales tools and more value for clients.
The program follows a year of feedback from the trade. Aurora says advisors asked for faster quotes, easier access to prices, better product support and fairer payment timing. The result brings those needs into one package.
It is a sound move. Travel agents do much of their work months before a ship sails. They research routes, compare cabins, explain risks and guide clients through a costly trip. They should not have to wait until the last penguin has waved goodbye before their work is rewarded.
Earlier commission payments
The biggest gain for agencies is the new commission timetable. Eligible gross commission will now be paid 60 days before the client departs.
That change should improve the agency’s cash flow. It also marks a welcome shift in how Aurora values the work done at the start of a booking.
Expedition sales can take time. A client may need help with flights, insurance, health forms, gear and optional activities. There may also be several calls before the booking is made. Earlier pay is therefore more than a nice gesture. It is a practical trade benefit.
Aurora will also offer Aurora Insider Rates. Eligible advisors, plus their friends and family, may book selected voyages within 120 days of departure. The published flat rate is US$300 per person, per day, subject to space and the relevant terms.
This gives advisors a chance to get to know the product firsthand. That still matters. A person who has boarded a Zodiac in cold seas can explain the experience far better than a glossy brochure.
More value for clients
From the 2026–27 Antarctic season, premium drinks will be included in voyage fares across Aurora’s fleet at no extra cost. The list includes premium spirits, cocktails, beer, wine and liqueurs.
For agents, this is a simple point to sell. A more inclusive fare is easier to explain. It also helps clients plan their total spend before they leave home.
Aurora has also added a no-fee voyage transfer for eligible bookings. Clients who cannot travel after paying a deposit may be able to move funds to another Aurora voyage. The new voyage must depart within 36 months of the first departure date.
The keyword is eligible.
Aurora’s current terms state that the amount which may be moved depends on when written notice is received. A client cancelling 121 days or more before departure may transfer the deposit. Between 90 and 120 days before departure, 50 per cent of the full ticket price may be transferred. No transfer is permitted less than 90 days before departure.
A new deposit is also required for the replacement voyage. All transfers remain subject to space being available, although Aurora does not charge a transfer fee.
Agents should therefore check the current terms before quoting the policy. Fine print is rarely thrilling, but it is much better read before a booking than after a problem.
Faster expedition sales tools
Aurora has also upgraded its Travel Advisor Hub. The hub gives agents one place to find sales tools, rates and other trade material.
A new Dates & Rates Tool shows live prices across all cabin types. It also shows the availability of optional activities. Advisors can search by departure date, region, season, voyage length, ship and price.
That should make it easier to answer clients’ questions when they are ready to buy. When a traveller asks for a balcony cabin and a kayaking place on the same sailing, a fast answer can save the sale.
“I’ll come back to you next Thursday” has never been one of travel retail’s great closing lines.
Aurora is also building an online advisor booking portal. It will let agents book expeditions online at a time that suits their business. No firm launch date has been announced yet, so that feature remains on the horizon rather than at the dock.
“Travel advisors are at the heart of our business, playing an essential role in inspiring travellers and guiding them toward the right expedition experience,” said David Tanguay, Head of Global Sales at Aurora Expeditions.
“Aurora Advisor Advantage is our investment in that partnership providing advisors with enhanced tools, greater product visibility, and more meaningful rewards, while making it easier to deliver exceptional value for both their clients and their business.”
A useful vote of confidence
Aurora Advisor Advantage is not one grand idea. Its strength comes from several smaller changes that solve real trade problems.
Earlier pay helps the agency. Live rates speed up the sale. Insider rates build product knowledge. Better fare value helps the client. More flexible transfer rules may give travellers added peace of mind.
The plan also shows that Aurora sees agents as more than a sales channel. Expedition voyages can involve remote ports, strict health rules, travel insurance, optional activities and large sums of money. Good advice remains vital.
These are not always trips that should be booked by clicking the cheapest cabin and hoping for the best.
There will be more to come. Aurora says Advisor Advantage is an ongoing project rather than a one-off launch. The new online booking portal is expected to be the next major step.
For now, the changes give agents solid reasons to take another look at Aurora. They also follow a timeless rule of trade: listen to the people who sell your product, give them the right tools and pay them on time.
Even in expedition cruising, good business does not need a compass.

Years in Australia’s finest travel agencies taught her the art of calm, how to find a flight in a fog of cancellations, how to soothe a traveller when luggage wanders, how to turn nine frantic days in Europe into something resembling sense. Qualified, seasoned, endlessly patient, she learned that good travel advice is part logistics, part listening.
But the storyteller in her was always waiting its turn. Writing offered a new map, a way to turn experience into reflection, detail into delight. At Global Travel Media, Sandra now writes the truths only insiders know: the mishaps, the laughter, the grace found between gates and goodbyes. She reminds us that travel, for all its fuss, is still one of life’s better ideas.
