The travel industry has seen enough executive reshuffles lately to fill an airport departure board, but this one carries more strategic muscle than most.

The Globus family of brands has confirmed that Managing Director Asia Pacific, Chris Hall, will transition into a newly created Chairman and Strategic Advisor role from 15 July 2026, signalling the company’s growing confidence in the Asia Pacific market and its appetite for long-haul expansion.

And no, this is not one of those “thank you for your service and enjoy the golf course” appointments.

Quite the opposite.

Hall’s move upstairs appears designed to keep his fingerprints firmly on the steering wheel as the business accelerates its refreshed APAC strategy across touring and river-cruising brands, including Avalon Waterways, Globus and Cosmos.

In travel industry terms, it is less a retirement lounge and more a premium upgrade.

Since arriving at GFOB in March 2025, Hall has overseen a significant repositioning of the business throughout the region. The company sharpened its pricing strategy, refined its marketing direction and rolled out increasingly aggressive value-led offers aimed squarely at cost-conscious travellers still navigating inflation-fatigued budgets.

The introduction of “Fly Free” and flight-inclusive packages across Avalon Waterways and Globus proved particularly timely, tapping into a market where airfares continue to behave like luxury handbags, expensive, unpredictable and rarely discounted when you actually need them.

Hall also pushed advisor engagement harder than many expected.

Industry training initiatives expanded under his watch, including the company’s first-ever advisor charter training program, while the launch of the “Travel Deals You Can Trust” campaign gave Cosmos a clearer voice in the increasingly crowded value-touring sector.

In an era where consumers are bombarded with online noise, endless comparison sites and enough “limited-time offers” to trigger collective eye-rolling across the industry, the emphasis on trust and transparency landed well.

GFOB President and Chief Executive Officer, Scott Nisbet, praised Hall’s leadership and suggested the company’s ambitions in Asia Pacific are only just beginning.

“Chris has shown great leadership of the APAC region over the past twelve months, bringing a laser sharp focus to our product offering and pricing in market and ensuring Globus, Avalon and Cosmos brands are set up for future growth,” Nisbet said.

“The APAC region holds great potential for our brands so we are investing in the team to create the Chairman and Strategic Advisor role while also appointing a new Managing Director to continue with the execution of the refreshed strategy.”

That final line matters.

This is not simply succession planning. It is expansion planning.

The APAC travel market remains one of the world’s most competitive tourism battlegrounds, particularly as touring operators fight for relevance against independent travel trends, dynamic packaging technology and increasingly sophisticated online booking behaviour.

Yet touring is quietly enjoying something of a renaissance.

Travellers burnt out by logistical headaches, airport chaos and self-managed itineraries are rediscovering the appeal of structured travel experiences, especially when those experiences include premium inclusions, transparent pricing and someone else worrying about the transfers.

Hall believes GFOB has positioned itself strongly for that next growth phase.

“At GFOB, we’ve evolved significantly over the past 12 months, working to sharpen our offering and go to market with an even more competitive product,” Hall said.

“We have expanded our destinations and itineraries, refined our value proposition and can proudly say we offer market-leading value to our customers, while delivering an exceptional experience across our brands. I’m looking forward to supporting the team as we continue to build and expand the GFOB presence in the region.”

Importantly, Hall’s continued involvement provides continuity during a period when consistency matters enormously. Travel companies across the globe are still wrestling with changing consumer behaviour, rising operational costs and fierce competition for discretionary spending.

Keeping experienced leadership close to the strategy table is not merely prudent; it is increasingly essential.

Meanwhile, the search is underway for the next Managing Director, Asia Pacific, with GFOB currently accepting expressions of interest through recruitment firm Alexander Associates.

For ambitious travel executives seeking a rare opportunity to shape one of the region’s most recognisable touring portfolios, this may be the industry vacancy that turns heads faster than a surprise airfare sale to Europe in school holidays.

Travel advisors wanting to learn more about the latest Globus, Cosmos and Avalon Waterways programs, including the company’s evolving Fly Free offers and advisor training initiatives, can visit the official Globus family of brands platform for further details and upcoming product updates.

And for travellers weighing up their next European river cruise or escorted holiday, GFOB’s sharpened focus on value, inclusions and trusted pricing may arrive at precisely the right moment, particularly while wallets remain tighter than airline legroom in economy.

One thing is certain: in a travel sector still rebuilding confidence and momentum, the Globus family of brands is not standing still waiting for the market to catch up.

It is already boarding.
