For Chimu Adventures, that someone was Jason Dudson or, as he was universally known in-house, ‘Super Jase’.
Jason’s sudden passing has left the Sydney office bereft and the broader industry in disbelief. This wasn’t just another Destination Specialist; this was a man who somehow managed to be the office cornerstone, a repatriation lifeline during the pandemic, a Pearl Jam jukebox, and a devoted family man who never tired of reminding you how much he adored his kids.
The Man Who Held the Fort
To understand Jason’s importance, remember the dark days of border closures. While others quietly shelved their brochures, Jason was the one helping to repatriate travellers not only for Chimu but also for other companies. Loyalty like that doesn’t appear on balance sheets, but it keeps travel companies afloat.

When the skies emptied and Chimu pivoted to scenic flights over Antarctica and beyond, Jason wasn’t just selling them; he was crewing them. And when the borders finally creaked open again, he was steering the business back onto solid ground. The fact that Chimu has emerged once more as a strong operator owes much to the man who never lost his sense of humour, even when the world around him had.
The Personality That Lit Up a Room
Jason’s colleagues describe him as the bloke who could turn the most ordinary day into something memorable. His humour was wicked, his timing impeccable, and his generosity unforced. “Jason’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. We are grateful for the time we had with him, the Pearl Jam songs he shared and memories we’ll carry forward,” Chimu Adventures said in a heartfelt tribute.
He was the first to laugh at himself, lift others when morale dipped, and pull out photos of his kids to prove that while travel was his trade, family was his life’s great adventure.
Farewell, Super Jase
From noon on Tuesday, 26 August, Chimu Adventures will close its Sydney office to farewell Jason. It’s a rare full stop for a company built on movement, but entirely fitting for a man whose absence will be felt in every desk, phone line, and coffee run.
Jason leaves behind his partner and children, who were his deepest pride. A GoFundMe page has been created to support them — and if past industry form is any guide, the generosity will flow as freely as the stories now being told about the man.
An Industry Loss, A Human Loss
Travel will roll on, as it always does, but it will do so without a rare spirit. Jason embodied the things we claim matter: loyalty, humour, resilience, and he embodied them without ever needing to say so. His presence was the proof.
